Christian Bednar B.A., M.A.T. English, M.A. English Literature (anticipated 2012) and Jennifer Bednar B.A., M.Ed.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Bednar created Boston Scholastic for U.S. and international students seeking the highest quality in academic support.
 
Mr. Bednar tutors and edits academic writing. His students apply to some of the finest schools in the United States and England.
 
In addition to teaching high school and college English, Mr. Bednar has worked as a freelance journalist in the Boston area. A high honors graduate of Saint Anselm College and Boston University, he was awarded the John Julian Ryan Award for Excellence in Literary Studies and was selected to present academic papers at Oxford University and the University of Virginia. He is now pursuing a second master's degree in English literature at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
 
Mrs. Bednar's expertise is in the field of learning disabilities. She tutors, interprets statistical data, offers consultations, and makes placement recommendations for students with learning challenges.
 
While an undergraduate at Saint Anselm College, Mrs. Bednar was invited to present her research on children's memory at the American Psychological Association's Annual Conference in Washington D.C.  She then earned her master's degree in moderate learning disabilities at Lesley University. Through her tenure as a special education teacher, Mrs. Bednar completed the 30-hour Orton-Gillingham Comprehensive Training. 

Meghan Carroll B.S., M.Ed. (anticipated 2011) 

Ms. Carroll's academic background allows her to provide tutoring in English, mathematics, and test preparation for students in both elementary and high school. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Fitchburg State University and is currently finishing her Master of Mathematics Education at Lesley University. Her undergraduate and graduate coursework includes the Assessment of Students with Moderate Disabilities, Strategies for Secondary Students with Disabilities, Reading/Learning Problems, Math/Science/Social Studies for Students with Disabilities, and Foundations in Special Education. The Massachusetts Department of Education has awarded Ms. Carroll teacher licensure in the following areas: moderate disabilities (grades 5-12), elementary (grades 1-6), and mathematics (grades 8-12). Now a full-time high school special education teacher, Ms. Carroll has also taught mainstream high school-level English and mathematics classes as well as general education classes at the elementary school level. She has completed the Lindamood-Bell training course and has experience with multiple standardized tests and curriculum-based testing materials including, the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, the Gray Oral Reading Tests, Key Math, and the Peabody Individual Achievement Test.  

Jessica Costa B.S., M.Ed.
 
Ms. Costa tutors in science and SSAT/SAT mathematics.  Having received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Hartwick College, she went on to obtain her master's degree in Science Education from Northeastern University. As an educator, she has been awarded National Board Certification--an advanced teaching credential administered by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to highly qualified teachers across the country. Ms. Costa has also completed a math content program at Lesley University as well as Boston University's Improving the Teaching of Physics program.

Arianne Dellovo B.A., M.A.T. English

Ms. Dellovo offers tutoring in the areas of English, standardized test preparation (SSAT, HSPT, and SAT), and application assistance. As a member of the Honors program at Simmons College, she earned her B.A. in English. For her graduate studies in education, Ms. Dellovo maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average at Simmons. She is now a ninth and tenth grade English teacher. During the 09-10 school year, her school piloted the concept of the inclusive classroom. She continues to be an active participant in this program. Additionally, Ms. Dellovo has written curriculum for a co-teaching model of the inclusive classroom and attended a workshop titled Current, Best Ideas for Making Inclusion Work. She is also the advisor to her school’s literary magazine.                                                                                           

Ashley DeRuosi B.A., M.A.T. Reading

Ms. DeRuosi’s tutors English Language Arts and writing at the middle school and high school level.  She received her B.A. in English with a concentration in Secondary Education.  While completing her undergraduate work at Merrimack College, Ms. DeRuosi was a Presidential Scholar, a Dean’s List student, Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper, as well as co-founder and president of the English club.  Ms. DeRuosi teaches both college prep and honors English Language Arts classes at the high school level.  She has also taught Honors Global Literature and Honors Public Speaking.  Ms. DeRuosi is finishing her master’s degree at Gordon College to become a reading specialist.  She is also training to become a certified Orton-Gillingham tutor.  

Jennifer Kohr B.S., M.Ed., C.A.G.S.
 
Ms. Kohr specializes in mathematics. As a high school teacher, she is familiar with a wide variety of courses, ranging from remedial to advanced.  During her undergraduate studies at The University of Massachusetts, Ms. Kohr was awarded a teaching assistantship by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. She received her Master's of Education from Lesley University in December 2008.  Since then, Ms. Kohr has continued to teach full time, tutor regularly, and complete her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Advanced Educational Leadership at the University of New England.

Jessica Krause B.S., MST Dual Degree

Ms. Krause’s academic portfolio includes English language arts and special education. As an undergraduate student at Fitchburg State College, she was an Interdisciplinary Studies major with a focus in English. She then completed her master’s degree work in special education at Mount Saint Mary College in New York. Ms. Krause has taught English language arts, reading, math, science, and social studies. In regard to special education, she has implemented curricula, modifications, and accommodations according to students’ IEPs and has utilized various approaches to student behavior management. 

Alison Prindiville B.A., M.Ed.
 
Ms. Prindiville tutors in English and English-related subjects. Her academic accomplishments include being both a Presidential Scholar and a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of New Hampshire, she worked in the textbook publishing industry for a few years. Realizing that she wanted to pursue a career in teaching, Ms. Prindiville applied to and was accepted into the Master of Education program at Salem State College. Her courses at SSC included Teaching Special Needs Students, Literature for Young Adults, Contemporary Approaches to Teaching Reading, and Educational Diversity. Presently, she is a high school English teacher, a co-advisor to the class of 2011, and a co-founder of a faculty writing group dedicated to improving writing instruction in middle and high school.
